WORKSHOP | SEATTLE

A few months ago I was asked by the lovely ladies at Jackson Fish Market to come out at teach a workshop at their beautiful Seattle design studio.  My husband and I have never been to the northwest so I agreed to the trip immediately! This was my first time teaching hand lettering (not calligraphy) so the process was a bit different than usual.  The class had a great turn out and everyone went home with some killer new hand lettering skills to apply to their design jobs or just for fun.

The workshop started off with me teaching the students about the basics of lettering; the important aspects to be aware for when one starts attempting drawing out letters.  From there, each student slowly but surely developed her own alphabet, constructing a hand lettering style that is truly distinctive to her own personality.  This part of the class was so much fun because I was able to really get a feel for each student's preferences and "style". It was pleasant to see how distinctive each alphabet was! After this stage, we jumped into a group critique and finally worked on finalized inked drawings utilizing the skills learned throughout the day.

Al of the students in my Seattle workshop had a background in creative arts so, needless to say, they had a natural knack for creating some beautiful final compositions!

Thank you so much Holly + Jenny at Jackson Fish Market for inviting me out to teach at your lovely studio!  I couldn't have asked more more hospitable hosts.
